Ian Norris studied fine art at Blackburn College of Art where he was awarded a BA (Hons) Fine Art-1st class in 2011. He was awarded MA Painting with distinction at Manchester Metropolitan University in 2024
Ian starts the process of any painting by producing drawings from observation or memory. In the studio he may refer to elements of the drawings to form the basis of a painting. His process embraces chance, spontaneity, and modification. The finished painting results from the physical process of painting and contain multiple applications of paint to create texture and layers; sometimes small or entire sections are scraped back to unveil a variety of colours and textures in the depths of the board or canvas.
